OhioPyle State Park

OhioPyle is one of my favorite places to hike near Pittsburgh. It is about an hour and a half outside the city (see the map below) and offers tons of fun activities. Not only is there hiking, but biking, rock climbing, swimming, and tons of waterfalls and restaurants to explore. Below are a few photos I took at OhioPyle, that hopefully encourage you to get out and explore there too!

Ohio Pyle has many bike trails where you'll find people walking, walking dogs, and biking. Here's a shot of us on one of the highest bridges riding our bikes.

Cucumber Falls features a lot of high rocks to climb up. Since it's near a waterfall, things can get slippy, so you have to be careful.

Coopers Rock is another one of my favorite places to hike. It is about an hour and half outside the city (see map below) just over the PA border and into West Virginia.

Here is a google maps shot of the distance from Pittsburgh to Coopers Rock.

Coopers Rock State Forest gets its name from a legend about a fugitive who hid from the law near what is now the overlook. A cooper by trade, he resumed making barrels at his new mountain hideout, selling them to people in nearby communities. He lived and worked in the forest for many years.

Hammocking in Coopers Rock is very common and welcome! A lot of campers simply sleep in their hammocks!
